Madison Square Park

Madison Square Park has everything I need for a glorious spring afternoon!

                                                                              1.  Art

Using the ubiquitous wood water tank one finds throughout the city, Brooklyn-based, Chilean artist Ivan Navarro created a new sculptural installation, "This Land is Your Land".
Wonderful!  I love the use of a familiar, almost ordinary object, and then planting within, the experiences of migration, memory, home.

2.  Jemmy's Dog Run
It even has a view of the Empire State Building (below- background, slim building on the left).
Bruno of course is saying- Mom, do I have to be here?!!
I try persuading him- You like playing off lead, Bruno!  I can't let you off lead in the main park areas, this is where you'll have to be..
Bruno says, Fine.  I'll say hello to the Senior Citizen ambling slowly towards us...
Hello?
Bruno agrees for her to rest with us in the shade.
He climbs back on my lap.
He observes the high jinks around us from his vantage point.
He decides, to take a NAP!
(Sigh.  My dog is very well-behaved.  He just isn't, friendly.)

3.  Shake Shack
The Original!  When the sun shifts and Bruno finally awakes, we get in a line that snakes on and on.
The line ahead of us...
The line behind us...
I think a visit here requires co-ordinated back-up.  Someone stands in line, someone else waits for a table.  And eventually, you will get to sit down and eat.

4.  Great Architecture
The Empire State is glimpsed northwards.

The Flatiron is south of the park.

5.  Live Improvisational Music
New York feels so much gentler than when I lived here, twenty years ago.  The energy is softer, more mellow.  The streets are cleaned up.  But on a day like today, with the music singing, and the netizens at play, at rest, how not to be swept away by this city?

The city still feels youthful and optimistic.   A smile spreads on my face.  I'm in a New York state of mind!
